Biking infrastructure guide – Copenhagen

In Denmark, the technical characteristics of the cycling infrastructure are defined with simple rules, in relation to the speed of the cars in the adjacent road.

  • 10-30 km/h: no separation
  • 40 km/h: separated with painted line
  • 50-60 km/h: separated with a small curb
  • 70-130 km/h: independent bike path
  • Bike lane is always to the right side of parking slots
  • Bi-directional bike lanes only if the bike path is independent
